The Media Forum of the Islamic Movement under the leadership of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), Katsina Zone, on Sunday, December 28, 2025, organized a one-day media awareness and capacity-building workshop in Katsina.

The programme, held at the Markaz within Katsina metropolis, attracted participants from across the state, including Daura, Jibia, Kankia, Malumfashi and Katsina city. More than 70 participants attended the one-day event.

Participants, particularly those who travelled from other zones, were received and provided with refreshments before the formal commencement of the programme.

Proceedings began with opening prayers, Qur’anic recitation and devotional chants, after which the objectives of the workshop were outlined by Malam Musa L. Musa of Daura.

The first lecture was delivered by Malam Abubakar Isa on the topic, “The Negative Impact of Modern Media on Religious Activists.” He drew attention to the growing influence of social media platforms, particularly Facebook, in diverting public attention. He attributed this trend largely to algorithm-driven content, explaining that short video reels and targeted advertisements often distract users, especially those engaged in religious activities.

The second presentation was delivered by Malam Salisu Al-Mizan, who spoke on “The Influence of Media on the Life of a Muslim.” He emphasized that modern media platforms remain powerful tools for information dissemination and orientation when used responsibly. According to him, public opinion and attitudes are increasingly shaped through digital platforms, making media engagement critical in contemporary advocacy.

He cited the Iranian Revolution as an example of effective media use, noting how the widespread dissemination of speeches and teachings contributed to the success of Imam Khomeini’s movement. He stressed the need for sustained media efforts to promote awareness of the mission and struggle of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky (H), particularly among those yet to understand his cause.

The third lecture was presented by Alhaji Basiru Abubakar Usta on “The Importance of Understanding Media Ethics and Professional Standards in Islamic Media Practice.” He cautioned against the assumption that possession of advanced mobile devices automatically qualifies an individual as a media practitioner. He emphasized that media practice is guided by ethical principles, professionalism and appropriate communication strategies to ensure clarity, credibility and positive societal impact.

Following the lectures, participants observed a break for prayers and meals.

The workshop concluded with a closing address by Sheikh Yakub Yahya Katsina, who highlighted the far-reaching influence of media in shaping global narratives and public consciousness. He warned that media platforms are often used to manipulate perceptions and instigate divisions, noting that control of major media outlets significantly affects the flow of information.

According to him, media practitioners must exercise caution, sincerity and accountability in their work, stressing that written and spoken words carry equal responsibility before God. He urged media actors to strengthen discipline, mutual respect and organizational structure to sustain their activities effectively.

Sheikh Yakub further called on participants to deepen their spiritual commitment, noting that meaningful media engagement requires closeness to God for messages to positively influence society. He also advised against internal disputes, urging sustained public enlightenment on global issues and the interests driving them.
